Replete with illustrations of the artist's work in black-and-white and color. Signed by the artist in blue pen in a margin on the title page. William Gilkerson (1936-2015) was an American author and artist. A catalog published on the occasion of an exhibition at the Peabody Museum of Salem featuring Gilkerson's art. As suggested by the title, Gilkerson specialized in maritime subjects such as ships, sailors, and seascapes. He worked in a variety of media including watercolors, oil painting, drawing, and scrimshaw.
