This book was published in conjunction with a 2001 exhibition of the artist's work held at the Museum of Northwest Art. Approval of the final galleys of work for this publication was Beth Callahan's final labor of love for her late husband, as she passed soon after. Callahan was one of "the big four" of the Northwest School, or Northwest Mystics, which also included Guy Anderson, Morris Graves and Mark Tobey. Their styles involved combinations of Pacific Northwest influences including Asian and Indigenous art.
