The featured artist was Hung Liu (1948-2021), a Chinese-American artist. Liu is perhaps best-known for her paintings that address the persistence of history, East-West relations, and Chinese identity. _WashingTown Blues_ is a mixed-media installation that pays homage to the Chinese immigrants who arrived to Charleston, South Carolina from the 1880s-1940s. Most of the Chinese immigrants in Charleston during this time worked in the laundry business. Liu references this fact in her installation art by incorporating Chinese garments, fabric, irons, and ironing boards. Includes essays by Mark Sloan, Lucy R. Lippard, and Jian Li.
