Notes: Very Good, 14" x 10 1/4." Text in Japanese hiragana. Black-and-white paper wrappers in a glassine dust jacket. Front cover features the famous phoenix statue called the Ho-o (or, Hou-ou) that once sat atop the Amida Hall (or, Phoenix Hall) at Byodo-in. Red and black lettering to covers. Black lettering to white spine. Edge wear and bumped tips to covers and small chip at head of spine, small 2 1/2" tear to top of spine. Text block clean and intact. Glassine dust jacket clean but is fragile with severe chipping, especially at corners and spine. Book is protected in a crystal clear plastic sleeve. Pages unmarked and intact. Replete with full-page, black-and-white printed photographs by noted Japanese photographer Ken Domon of sculptures. 15 pp. + 32 unnumbered illustrations. Volume V of the _Ancient Japanese Sculpture_ series. Volume V focuses on sculpture from the Heian Period (794-1185) of Japan.
