A Small Book of Black & White LiesISBN:0964206900Author:Dave McKean and Bill Laswell (Introduction)Publisher:Allen Spiegel Fine Arts and HourglassRelease Date:1995Seller Category:PHOTOGRAPHYQty Available:1Condition:Used: ExcellentSku: 00564Notes: A Near Fine book in a Fine dust jacket, First Edition, Limited Edition, one of 3000 copies, 4to, 9 1/4" x 9 1/4." Introduction by Bill Laswell. White paper-covered boards in an off-white paper dust jacket with image of teeth holding a fork on front panel, age-toned and slightly wrinkled, else clean and intact, protected by paper-backed mylar sleeve. Cream paper-packed boards with black lettering to dust jacket spine, decorated with sepia image of hand, lightly age-toned with minuscule wear to edges and tips, else clean and intact, binding tight. Pages pristine and intact. Profusely illustrated in black-and-white. Unpaginated, 52 pp., including illustrations. McKean's eclectic approach in the early stages of digital photographic manipulation was to merge found objects, human figures, and collage, resulting in otherworldly compositions reminiscent of Dark Surrealism. A sampling of the subjects in these photos: an eyeless maiden wearing a crown in a field, birds perching atop impossibly airborne chairs, and a tableau of uncomfortably piercing objects penetrating human flesh. Dave McKean (b. 1963) is an English "Renaissance man" whose art spans multiple disciplines, illustration, digital art, photography, graphic design, filmmaking, music, and comic book art. McKean has illustrated a number of books by notable authors including Ray Bradbury, Neil Gaiman, and Stephen King.
